Attorneys: A History of Helpfulness

Attorneys in our day are often called bottom feeders, ambulance chasers or worse. I am an attorney in private practice, and it is my mission to show you that the law is a calling filled with noble and enthusiastic people who are doing the job to help others. The law can be incredibly confusion, and it seems to change drastically day by day. Attorneys are there to help clients navigate the murky waters of legal issues and find the most appropriate solution to problems they face. So don't think of a lawyer as the bad guys. Lawyers help people, and this blog will teach you how.

2 Things To Do After Your Car Accident

If you have been in a car accident, there are some things that you should immediately do in order to make sure that you are protected in case of a lawsuit or if you have to fight with the car insurance. Doing these things is relatively easy, but they are really important.

Record the Aftermath

One thing that you want to do is to record the aftermath of the accident. That means that you want to take pictures of the damage to your car, the other vehicles, and any other property in the area. The pictures will show what kind of damage there was after the accident. That way no one can have more damage to their car and claim that it came from the accident. You won't be able to get pictures of things that might be under or inside the car, like the frame, but they will show places where damage happened. If you can, also take pictures of injuries that anyone might have sustained. However, people have the right to refuse to have their picture taken, so be aware of that. You can take pictures of the IDs and insurance information of anyone involved, which will make sure that you don't lose anything and that you have the information right on hand when you need it. Collecting this information will also help your car accident attorney in the event of a lawsuit.

Talk to Witnesses

You also want to talk to any witnesses in the area. You want to get their contact information as well as asking them to write down a statement of what they saw happen and get that statement to you. You want this to happen as soon as possible so that the witnesses aren't losing any of the details about what happened in the accident. If the witness writes out their statement as soon as possible, before talking to too many other people about what they saw, this can also mean that they won't accidentally add any details that didn't happen. If the witness does add in those tiny details, it's not that they are doing it on purpose, it's that the human mind is designed to fill in any gaps that might exist and the more they talk about it, the more those little details get reinforced.

If you have been in an accident, you want to make sure that you are protected. One way to do that is to make sure that you do the right things after your accident. For more information, you can reach out to a car accident lawyer in your area.
